Why we stock this

We looked at what conventional sponge cloths are made from first.  These use wood-pulp cellulose and repurposed cotton instead of synthetic plastic fibres, so the material difference is clear rather than hidden behind a broad environmental claim.

We also checked what happens after use. SEEP confirms that the cloths can be washed repeatedly and then cut into smaller pieces and added to home compost when they are worn out.  The packaging is FSC ®-certified card and recyclable with household paper and cardboard.

What it's made of:

70% wood-pulp cellulose: Provides the absorbent sponge-like structure.

30% repurposed cotton: SEEP uses short cotton fibres left over from fashion manufacturing rather than virgin cotton for this portion of the cloth.

Water-based inks: Used for the printed designs.

Full material composition: 70% cellulose, 30% repurposed cotton, water-based inks.

How to use & care

  • Use for wiping surfaces and soaking up spills.
  • Rinse after use.
  • Allow to dry between uses to help prevent mould.
  • Wash in the washing machine at 30-40°C when needed
  • SEEP also says they can be refreshed in the dishwasher.

End of life

Once well used, cut the cloth into smaller pieces and add it to your home compost.  SEEP says this helps it break down more quickly.  If you don't home compost, dispose of it with general household waste.
